How we work

Good marketing starts with understanding.

Every piece of work follows the same path. It begins with the problem, not the service, and it ends where it started: with better understanding.

The method

Five stages. One cycle.

Each stage has a job, and none of them is skippable. The last one hands over to the first, so the marketing keeps getting better informed.

01 Understand 02 Strategise 03 Create 04 Activate 05 Optimise A cycle, not a line.

Stage 01: Understand

Find the truth.

Most marketing problems are misdiagnosed. We start by finding out what’s really going on, and we’re willing to question the brief to do it.

What you come away with

A shared, honest picture of the problem before anything is spent on the wrong solution.

Stage 02: Strategise

Define the direction.

Understanding only helps once it becomes choices. We turn what we learn into a direction you can act on and judge.

What you come away with

A clear direction, and a clear view of what not to do.

Stage 03: Create

Bring the strategy to life.

Ideas, words and design shaped by the strategy, so every piece has a job. The test is simple: is it clear, is it relevant, and does it give people a reason to act?

What you come away with

Work that carries the strategy, not work that merely fills the calendar.

Stage 04: Activate

Put it into the world.

Activity is a means to an outcome, never the outcome itself. We choose what suits the objective and the audience, not what’s habitual.

What you come away with

The right work in front of the right people, tied to the goal.

Stage 05: Optimise

Learn, improve and grow.

We measure against the objective we set at the start, and what we learn goes straight back into understanding. That’s why this is a cycle, not a line.

What you come away with

Evidence of what’s working, and better understanding for the next round.

Then back to Understand. What we learn in Optimise goes straight back into the next round of understanding.

What we understand

People first. Then brand and market.

We start with what people need, want and struggle with. Brand and market truth sharpen that into a strategic opportunity.

Starts here

Human Truth

What people need, want, struggle with and care about.

02

Brand Truth

Who the brand is, what it stands for and why people should choose it.

03

Market Truth

What is happening in the category, what competitors are doing and where opportunities exist.

Strategic opportunity

It starts with what people already care about. Brand and market truth sharpen it into a strategic opportunity.

The thinking, made visible

From challenge to learning.

Every project follows the same chain. Skipping a link is how marketing ends up busy but ineffective.

  1. Business challenge

  2. Understanding

  3. Insight

  4. Strategy

  5. Communication

  6. Activation

  7. Results

  8. Learning

The first conversation

It starts with five questions.

You don’t need the answers before you speak to us. Working them out together is the first piece of work.

  1. What are you trying to achieve?
  2. What isn’t working?
  3. Who are you trying to reach?
  4. What do they need to understand?
  5. What needs to happen?
Questions

Fair questions.

We already know what we want. Do you still start with questions?

Yes, but briefly, and usually it’s quick. If you’re right, the questions confirm it and we move faster. If the brief is solving the wrong problem, you’ll want to know that before spending anything.

Do you still do social media, websites and campaigns?

Yes. When they’re what the problem needs, we do them properly. We just won’t recommend them before we understand why they’d work.

Do you guarantee results?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. We build marketing designed to work, we define what “working” means before we start, and we measure against it.

What do I need to bring to a first conversation?

Just the situation as you see it. You don’t need the answer, a brief or a budget figure. What you’re trying to achieve and what’s getting in the way is enough.

Something isn’t working? Let’s understand why.

Bring us the challenge. We’ll help determine what needs to happen next.
